DVLA Licence Changes

As of the 8th June 2015, the paper counterpart to the photo card driving licence is no longer valid. UK driving licence holders hiring within the UK will instead need to use the new ‘Share Driving Licence’ online DVLA service, for validation of their driving record.

The driver will need to visit https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and will need to enter their driving licence number, national insurance number and postcode. Once logged in the driver needs to click ‘Share Your Licence Information’ and then click create code.

A summary PDF copy of their driver record will be produced, this PDF contains an access code that allows the hire company to verify the drivers licence information presented online. The access codes are valid for 21 days and must be done before you collect your vehicle. Once the code has been used it cannot be used again.

If you have any trouble accessing your information online then please contact the DVLA on 0300 083 0013 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).

As well as the ID card part of your licence and the code, you will also need two proofs of address showing your name and address from the past two months i.e. utility bills, bank statements. A valid credit or debit card will also be required to leave a security deposit upon collection of your vehicle at the branch.

If you have any questions or queries then please do not hesitate to visit the website at YelloHire or call us on 0844 770 9070 for more information.
