Advice on hiring a minibus
Whether you are driving a large school group or sports team, a minibus is a great transport option. However, before you look into hiring a vehicle of this type, you should ensure that you are entitled to drive this type of vehicle on your driving license to avoid disappointment.
On the back of your driving license photocard, if it says you can drive a vehicle of type D1, then you are able to drive a minibus without further training. Typically, those who achieved their full driving license in or before 1996 will have this category on their license. If you are entitled to drive category D1 vehicles, then you can hire and drive a minibus without any problem and we have fully trained staff who can book this for you.
However, if you passed your test on or after 1st January 1997, it is likely that you will not see the D1 category listed on your license. If you don’t have this category on your license, it is possible to have it added. You need to apply to the DVLA for additional training and a minibus driving and theory test.
If you plan on hiring a minibus, make sure you check this well in advance to avoid disappointment. For further information on minibus hire and the license requirements, simply call our friendly team on 08447 709070.
