P&O ferries increase capacity to include vans and lorries

It is now even easier to take a large group abroad or enjoy a ‘booze cruise’ to France, with P&O ferries doubling the vehicle capacity on the Dover to Calais ferries. They have recently added six high-capacity super-ferries to their fleet, which can take up to 180 lorries each. This is twice as many as the older ferries that they have replaced, and great news for anyone driving a van or lorry across the Channel.

The first ship of this series, the ‘Spirit of Britain’ is the largest and was released for service on 23rd January 2011 and boasts a massive top speed of 22 knots. The other five ships, known as the Pride of Burgundy, the Pride of Calais, the Pride of Canterbury & Pride of Kent and the European Seaway, can hold between 100 and 120 lorries each. They have each been designed to the maximum specifications that can be handled by the ferry ports at Dover, Boulogne and Calais.

These six super-ferries sail from Dover to Calais between 10 and 12 times a day each, which means that there is plenty more opportunity to take a van or lorry across the Channel and into Europe for any purpose. So getting to Europe just got even easier.
